| Campaign UCLA: Where Great Futures Begin |
In April of 2000, the Campaign surpassed its original target of $1.2 billion a full two years ahead of schedule, and the campus set out to raise an additional $400 million by the Campaign’s end date of June 30, 2002, setting the new overall goal at $1.6 billion for academic priorities. With the close of fiscal year 2000-2001 – the second most successful
fund-raising year in UCLA’s history – the Campaign was 94 percent of
the way toward that new goal. Thanks to partnerships with alumni, parents
and friends, community organizations, foundations and corporations,
Campaign UCLA received nearly $283 million in private gifts and grants
during the year. This marked the fifth consecutive year in which UCLA’s
gift total has topped $200 million, and brought the Campaign total over
the $1.5-billion mark. These resources are making UCLA a stronger institution in myriad ways. Enhancing the educational experience for undergraduates and graduate students alike, private funding has reached 79 percent of the goal for student support. Contributions are helping to build state-of-the-art capital facilities today and the campus’ endowment for tomorrow, with about 31 percent endowed to generate perpetual funding for various programs and departments. The Campaign is bringing essential support to specific purposes, and six campus units have reached or surpassed their individual goals, including the UCLA School of Medicine, whose $800-million goal represented half of the overall campus target. In the year ahead, UCLA will continue to focus on campus priorities, such as the School of Law and The Anderson School. Increased funding for its academic core, the College of Letters and Science, will be a key focus of future Campaign efforts. The University also remains committed to expanding its numerous partnership programs that improve the quality of life in Los Angeles and in surrounding communities. |
