The School of Public Health provides state-of-the-art public health training combined with practical hands-on experience. The School’s graduates are at the forefront of all major public health efforts in the public and private sectors of the health system in the U.S. and abroad. Additionally, the School prepares future public health researchers and educators; provides continuing education for practicing professionals in the public health field; conducts basic and applied research relevant to describing, protecting and improving conditions for a healthy public; and contributes knowledge, expertise and service to the community. Increasingly important, the School plays a leadership role in disaster preparedness. The School's five departments, biostatistics, community-health sciences, environmental health sciences, epidemiology and health services, award the M.P.H., M.S., Dr.P.H. and Ph.D. degrees. In addition, the School offers two interdepartmental degrees (Environmental Science and Engineering and Molecular Toxicology) and combined degree programs with business, medicine, law and several area studies programs on campus. The School houses residency programs in preventive medicine and in occupational medicine. Additionally, two departments have an alternately scheduled M.P.H. program for working professionals. The School has 12 interdisciplinary centers that promote cooperative exchange across disciplines. Ranked among the top schools of public health in the nation, the UCLA School of Public Health is distinguished by the quality and breadth of its degree programs, its research on significant public health problems, and its role in working with communities in addressing these concerns. |
