Renowned for its innovation in nursing education, The School of Nursing continues to be a leader in providing advanced training and education. The School has been recognized for moving traditional nursing preparation into the mainstream of university education and for leading important trends in development of nursing curriculum. Its faculty members are widely recognized for research into areas such as the health of vulnerable populations, cardiovascular nursing research, health-related quality of life and the biological basis of nursing science.

The School's master's-level programs prepare students for careers as nurse practitioners in areas such as primary care and acute care, and for important roles as nurse administrators. Students move beyond the classroom to train at the UCLA Medical Center and a school-operated clinic for low-income residents in downtown Los Angeles. Students who earn Ph.D. degrees are prepared for careers in research and academic nursing.

  

2000-'01 MILESTONES INCLUDE:
zpinbl.gif (960 bytes)  Ranked eighth in the nation among schools of nursing in obtaining research funds from the National Institutes of Health.
zpinbl.gif (960 bytes)   Implemented the Master’s of Science in Nursing degree in nursing administration via the Internet, the first degree program at UCLA to be offered by long-distance learning.
 zpinbl.gif (960 bytes)  Started recruitment for faculty to fill three endowed chairs to enhance the research productivity of the School and to continue the excellence of its academic programs.
