The School of the Arts and Architecture, UCLArts, provides a full range of course offerings and degree programs through its six departments: Architecture and Urban Design, Art, Design|Media Arts, Ethnomusicology, Music and World Arts and Cultures. It also houses the Center for Intercultural Performance. Additionally, the School comprises UCLA Performing Arts, one of the largest arts presenters in the nation; the UCLA Hammer Museum, which contains the Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts; the UCLA Fowler Museum of Cultural History; and the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden. The mission of the School is to educate exceptionally creative artists, performers, architects and scholars, who are enriched by a global view of the arts and are prepared to serve as cultural leaders of the 21st century. By balancing practice and theory, the curriculum assures the understanding of both the interdependence and integration of creativity, performance and research. Students have unparalleled opportunities to learn from and interact with distinguished faculty who rank among the most innovative of contemporary artists, scholars and architects. The extraordinary opportunities provided to students and the community by the performing arts and museum programs are a hallmark of UCLA. Currently, the top priorities include improving the facilities and strengthening programmatic support. This includes providing more scholarships, supporting the development of new work and strengthening ties to the community. |
